Dinghai, located on the main island of the Zhoushan Archipelago in Zhejiang, China, was originally an ancient fishing village known as Dingshan. However, during the late Tang and early Song dynasties, people began to settle here. Dingshan was eventually renamed Dinghai and developed into a significant center for commerce and a prominent port. During the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, Dinghai gradually emerged as an important hub for foreign trade.
